Testosterone is a sex hormone that is secreted by the testes. In males, it is produced by the testes and ovaries in females. The adrenal gland also produces small quantities in both the sexes. Testosterone is an androgen, which means it regulates the development of male characteristics.
It works by finding and binding to specific androgen receptors in the body. When the body does not produce enough testosterone in males, it can result in reduced muscle mass, low facial hair growth, lack of a sex drive, lack of body hair and erectile dysfunction.
