Solution

The correct option is B

The acceleration of frame S2 with respect to S1 lies between 0 and 10ms-2

Step 1. Given data

  1. S1 and S2 is of equal magnitude
  2. S1=S2=5m/s2

Step 2. Formula used

Consider a vector v represented by AB side of the parallelogram and the vector u represented by AD of the parallelogram ABCD then the resultant vector w represented by AC is

w=u2+v2-2·u·v·cosφ

Step 3. Find the acceleration of frame S2 with respect to S1

Using parallelogram law,

Let S1 and S2 are the two arms of the parallelogram

Given S1=S2=5m/s2

The angle between the two vectors may lie between 0° to 180°

The resultant when the angle is 0° is

R=S12+S22-2·S1·S2·cosθ=52+52-2·5·5cos0°=50-50=0

The resultant when the angle is 180° is

R=S12+S22-2·S1·S2·cosθ=52+52-2·5·5cos180°=50+50=10

Therefore the acceleration of the frame S2 with respect to S1 lies between 0 and 10ms-2.

Hence, Option B is correct
