Question

Does ozone have a coordinate bond?

Open in App
Solution

Ozone:

  • Another sort of covalent connection known as a co-ordinate bond is created when an electron pair from one atom is shared.
  • The same atom provides both shared electrons. It is also known as a dipolar bond or a dative bond.
  • Each oxygen atom contains 6 electrons in its outermost shell.
  • The Lewis dot structure of the ozone molecule is as follows since it contains three oxygen atoms: The center oxygen atom makes a double bond with one oxygen atom in this structure but gives two electrons to the other oxygen atom to create a coordinate bond.
  • As a result, O3 has a coordinate bond.
