Question

The base of the transistor should be?

Open in App
Solution

Transistor

A transistor is a tiny semiconductor that regulates or controls the flow of current or voltage while also amplifying and producing electrical signals and functioning as a switch/gate for them.

Base of a transistor

  1. The transistor's base should be small so that most charge carriers can easily diffuse through it.
  2. The base area of a transistor is made exceedingly thin to improve majority carrier conduction from emitter to collector via the base.
  3. If base is made thick and highly doped, majority carriers will combine with the other carriers within the base and only few is collected by the collector which leads to small output collector current. Thus in order to have increase output collector current, base is made thin and lightly doped.
  4. Bases are lightly doped and very thin.

Thus, The base of the transistor should be narrow and lightly doped.
