Question

The density of a 60.00% (m/m) ethanol, (C2H5OH) solution is 0.8937gmml-1 what is the molarity of the solution?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data

Density of ethanol=0.8937gmml-1

The weight percentage of ethanol=60%

Step 2: Calculating molarity

Applying the formula which relates molarity, weight percentage, and density.

M=%w/w×d×10Molecularweight

The molecular weight of ethanol=46.07g

Substituting the values we get,

M=60×0.8937×1046.0711.63molL-1

Therefore, the molarity of the solution is 11.63molL-1
