  • The present levels and type of development which is going on from the second half of the twentieth century, is not sustainable as per warnings given by a number of scientists.
  • Non-renewable resources are those which will not be replenished and will get exhausted after using them continuously over many years.
  • They cannot replenish at the rate of usage as it takes millions of years for their formation, thereby causing problems for future generations as their needs will not be met due the current rate of usage of resources.
  • Groundwater is an example of renewable resources. However, even these resources are overused thereby preventing it from replenishing itself through natural processes like rains.
