Question

The following table gives the distribution of students of two sections according to the marks obtained by them. Represent the marks of the students of both the sections on the same graph by two frequency polygons. From the two polygons compare the performance of the two sections.

Solution

Frequency Polygon:

Class-mark =(UpperLimit+LowerLimit)2

Therefore, we can write the table with class marks.

For SectionA

For Section B

Now let us find the points where the frequency is zero.

Difference =15–5=10

First point=5–10=-5

Last point =45+10=55

we can plot the points (-5,0) and (55,0)

Hence, In the graph section, A is to the right of the section B, and more students of the sectionA have the highest marks.
