Question

The law which governs the force between electric charges is known as?

Open in App
Solution

Coulomb's Law:

  1. According to Coulomb’s law, the force of attraction or repulsion between two charged bodies is directly proportional to the product of their charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
  2. It acts along the line joining the two charges considered to be point charges.
  3. The figure illustrates coulomb's law:

In the figure, q1and q2are the electric charges,ris the distance between the charges (center to center). F12andF21 are the forces on each charge by the other charge.

The mathematical expression of Coulomb's Law is given by:

F=kq1q2r2,

Where k=14πε0 and ε0=8.85x10-12C2N-m2

Hence, the law governing force between charges is given by Coulomb's law.
