Solution

Magnetic materials:

The substances which are attracted to magnets are known as magnetic materials. Magnetic materials are categorized as magnetically hard, or soft materials. Magnetically soft materials are the ones that are easily magnetized but the induced magnetism usually is temporary

There are three types of magnetic material namely:

  1. Ferromagnetic material: The substances which have permanent magnetic moments and are strongly attracted to magnets are known as ferromagnetic materials. These have positive and very high magnetic susceptibility.
  2. Paramagnetic material: The substances which are weakly attracted to magnets are known as paramagnetic substances. These have positive and less magnetic susceptibility.
  3. Diamagnetic material: The substances repel any externally applied magnetic field. This occurs because their magnetic domains realign in order to oppose an externally applied magnetic field when they are influenced by a magnetic field.

Thus the materials which are attracted to a magnet are called magnetic materials.
