Question

The normality of 0.3m phosphorous acid is ___?

Open in App
Solution

Step1. Phosphorous acid

  • The chemical name of H3PO3is phosphorus acid.
  • Only those H atoms which are attached with oxygen in POH form are ionizable and cause the basicity.
  • Only two H atoms are attached with oxygen in POH in case of phosphorous acid.
  • Hence, basicity is two.

Step2. Formula for normality

Normality=molarity×basicity(foracids)

Step3. Calculation of normality

Normality=0.3×2=0.6N

Hence, the normality of 0.3m phosphorous acid is 0.6N.
