Solution

Sigma bond

  • “ This type of covalent bond is formed by the end to end (head-on) overlap of bonding orbitals along the internuclear axis. ”
  • This is called as head on overlap or axial overlap.

pi bond

  • “In the formation of π bond the atomic orbitals overlap in such a way that their axes remain parallel to each other and perpendicular to the internuclear axis.”

σ-bonds and π bonds are present in the given compound

  • 1 single bond = 1 sigma bond
  • 1 double bond = 1 sigma bond + 1 pi bond
  • 1 triple bond = 1 sigma bond + 2 pi bonds

  • So, the sigma bond in the given compound is 13, and the pi bond is 3.
