Question

The radius of a right circular cylinder increases at a constant rate. Its altitude is a linear function of the radius and increases three times as fast as radius.When the radius is 1cm the altitude is 6cm. Solution

The correct option is D

33

It is given that radius increases at constant rate.

So drdt=k

The altitude is a linear function of the radius and increases three times as fast as radius.

dhdt=3drdt

integrate both sides

h=3r+c

Given at r=1,h=6

6=3+c

c=3

So h=3r+3

Volume of right circular cylinder =πr2h

=πr2(3r+3)

=3π(r3+r2)

dVdt=3π3r2drdt+2rdrdt.......1

At r=6,dVdt=1

1=3π3×62drdt+2×6drdt

1=3π108drdt+12drdt

1=360πdrdt

drdt=1360π

At r=36,

dVdt=3π(3×362drdt+2×36drdt)

=3π×3960×1360π

=33

So, the value of nis 33

Hence, option D is correct.
