Solution

Protozoa:

  1. Protozoa are unicellular microorganisms.
  2. They are included in a separate kingdom Protista.
  3. They are found in ponds, lakes, rivers, the sea, and damp soil.
  4. The single-cell undergoes all biological activities inside the cytoplasm including digestion, excretion, reproduction, etc.

Examples of protozoa are:

Trypanosoma:

  1. Trypanosoma is a genus of kinetoplastids and a monophyletic group of unicellular parasitic flagellate protozoa.
  2. All Trypanosomes are heterogeneous and most are transmitted via a vector.
  3. The majority of species are transmitted by the blood-feeding invertebrates, but there are different mechanisms among the varying species.

Leishmania:

  1. Leishmania is a genus of trypanosomatid protozoa that causes a fatal vector-borne parasitic disease called leishmaniasis.
  2. They are transmitted by the bite of certain species of sand fly.
  3. Most forms of the disease are transmissible only from animals but some can be spread among humans.

Plasmodium:

  1. Plasmodium is a parasitic protozoan.
  2. Plasmodium causes malaria.
  3. Plasmodium which infects red blood cells in mammals, birds, and reptiles, occurs worldwide, especially in tropical and temperature zones.
