Thigmotropism is the curvature movement of a plant in response to a unilateral touch stimulus and can be observed in many climbers. In tendril climbers, the tendrils first show mutation, and as soon as their apices touch support, they move thigmotropically to turn around it.
Function of tendrils
- Tendril is a modified stem, leaf, or petiole.
- Tendrils support the plant as it climbs up a structure, allow a plant to find a more suitable area to grow due to more light.
- Stem tendrils help plants to climb.
- In plants, tendrils are present in different positions, and leaf, stem or even branches of plants may be transformed into tendrils.
