Question

Two circular, similar, coaxial loops carry equal currents in the same direction. If the loops are brought nearer, what will happen?

Open in App
Solution

Loops carry currents:

  1. When the two similar circular loops carrying equal currents are brought together, the flux associated with the two loops increases.
  2. By Lenz's law, a current will be induced such that it opposes the change of flux.
  3. Therefore to oppose the increase in flux, the current in the two loops decreases and so the flux also decreases.
