p to q. It can be written as p:q.

Calculating two unknown numbers:

The ratio of two numbers is given as 5:6.

Consider two numbers 5x and 6x, where x is a common multiple of two numbers.

Also, the ratio of two numbers is given as 4:5 when 8 is subtracted from each of the numbers 5x and 6x.

5x-86x-8=4555x-8=46x-825x-40=24x-3225x-24x=40-32x=8

Substituting the value of x in two numbers :

5x=5×85x=40

6x=6×86x=48

Hence the two numbers are 40 and 48.
