Obtaining Wool:

  1. It is the process of obtaining wool from the animal and its processing to make it available.
  2. Following is the sequence in which they are carried out: Shearing, Scouring, Sorting, Picking out the burrs, and Dyeing in various colors.

Shearing:

  1. It is the process of removing the woolen coat or fleece from an animal.
  2. Shearing instruments such as hand blades, scissors, and electric shears are used to accomplish this with no harm to the animal.
  3. It is frequently done in the summer when the weather is hot.
  4. By the time winter hits, they will have regrown their hair.

Scouring:

  1. Raw or greasy wool is wool that has been removed directly from the sheep.
  2. To remove oil, dust, and grime, raw sheared wool is washed in tanks with alkali and detergent.
  3. This is referred to as scouring.
  4. It is now done by a machine.

Sorting:

  1. In this, damaged or substandard wool is removed after scouring.
  2. The process of categorizing wool based on the color, length, and texture of the fibers is grading.

Picking out the burrs:

  1. Burrs are little fluffy fibers that are extracted from hairs.
  2. These fibers are washed and dried once more.

Dyeing:

  1. Because the wool fibers are originally black, brown, and white.
  2. They are dyed in a variety of colors.
