We have learnt that vibration is necessary for producing sound. Explain why the sound produced by every vibrating body cannot be heard by us?

How do we hear sound through ear:

  1. When an object vibrates, the particles of the surrounding medium starts vibrating.
  2. The surrounding particles that are in contact with the vibrating object displace from their equilibrium position.
  3. These particles exerts a force on the adjacent particles.
  4. After displacing the adjacent particle the first particle of the medium comes back in its original position.
  5. This process continues in the medium till the sound reaches your ear.

Audible frequency range

  1. Every sound cannot be heard by human ear because range of frequencies for each vibrating body varies.
  2. The audible range of frequencies for human ear is 20 Hz to 20000 Hz.

Therefore, humans cannot hear sound produced by every vibrating body.
