  • These reactions take occur with unsaturated compounds such as alkenes, alkynes, etc.
  • The general equation of the reaction is given below
  • A+BC, Here,A,B are two compounds and C is the product.

Consider the addition reaction given in the figure below.

Step 2: Example of an addition reaction.

  • C2H4 is treated with Br2 in carbon tetrachloride to produce an additional reaction product CH2Br-CH2Br.
