What are interstitial hydrides?

Interstitial hydrides involve hydrogen bonds with transition metals. They are also known as metallic hydrides. One interesting and unique characteristic of these hydrides is that they can be nonstoichiometric, meaning basically that the fraction of H atoms to the metals are not fixed. Hydrides are of 3 types; ionic, metallic and covalent.
