Anaerobic respiration

The cellular respiration process that happens without the presence of O2 is known as anaerobic respiration.

S.no

Aerobic respiration

Anaerobic respiration

1.It occurs in the cytoplasm and mitochondria. It occurs in the cytoplasm.
2.In this type of respiration, gases are exchanged. No gases are exchanged.
3.When glucose is broken, carbon dioxide and water are generated. In animal cells and muscle cells, lactic acid is produced. In Yeast, Ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide are produced.
4.A large amount of energy is released.A small amount of energy is released.
5.Occurs in higher organisms such as mammals.Occurs in lower organisms such as bacteria and yeast.

Organisms that use the anaerobic mode of respiration:

  1. Yeast
  2. Lactic acid bacteria
  3. Escherichia coli
