What are the limitations in obtaining energy from wind?

Open in App
Solution

The term wind energy is a system of components that converts the kinetic energy of the wind into electricity or mechanical power, and which comprises all necessary components including energy storage, power conditioning, control systems, transmission systems, etc.

The total amount of kinetic energy to satisfy all our needs by extracting just one-fourth of the energy from wind.

Limitations in obtaining energy from wind:

Few limitations in obtaining energy from wind are provided below:

  1. It is almost probably wrong to believe that no additional advances or improvements in wind turbine technology will occur.
  2. There will be no steady and ongoing manufacturing.
  3. Their efficiencies are around 50%-70% of the limit.
  4. A huge area is required to establish a wind power mill.
  5. The minimum wind speed should be 15km/h.
  6. Wind turbine buildings are only a few hundred feet tall, and winds at greater heights are not being used.
