Matter:

• Anything that has mass and takes up space is known as matter.
• A matter is categorized into three forms. They are solids, liquid and gas.

1. Solid:

• The particles in a solid are tightly packed due to the strong intermolecular attractions.
• Solid has a definite shape, mass, and volume.
• Examples of solid are rock, wood, and book.

2. Liquid:

• The particles in a liquid have weaker forces of attraction than solid.
• Liquid has a definite volume but not a fixed shape, they usually take the shape of the container.
• Examples of liquid are water and alcohol.

3. Gas:

• The intermolecular forces in gases are negligible.
• Gas has no definite volume or shape.
• Examples of gas are oxygen gas and carbon dioxide.
