  • The reactions that involve organic compounds are known as Organic reactions.
  • Organic reactions are categorized into many categories.

1. Substitution reaction:

  • It is the type of reaction in which one atom/group of atoms is substituted by another atom/group of atoms.
  • An example of Nucleophilic substitution is shown below:

2. Elimination reaction:

  • The reaction that involves the elimination/removal of adjacent atoms is known as the Elimination reaction.
  • An example of an Elimination reaction from Alkyl halide to Alkene is shown below.

3. Addition reaction:

  • It is a type of reaction in which more than one molecules combine to form a new larger product.
  • An example of an addition reaction is shown below:

4. Rearrangement reaction:

  • It is the type of reaction in which the molecule is rearranged to give a structural isomer of the original molecule.
  • The general rearrangement of Beckmann Rearrangement is shown below:
