The function of the stomach:

  4. It helps in the digestion of proteins present in ingested food.
  5. By providing H+, which activates pepsinogen, the precursor of pepsin, hydrochloric acid aids in the breakdown of proteins.
  6. A glycoprotein known as gastric mucus lubricates food masses to make them travel more easily through the stomach and forms a protective layer over the stomach cavity's lining epithelium.
  7. The contraction of the stomach muscle improves food digestion.
  8. The waste created by the digestion of food is sent out through the large intestine.
