Question

What is a remainder?

Open in App
Solution

Remainder.

The remainder is a leftover value when a number is divided by another number. The remainder is always less than the divisor(the number which is dividing). Basically when a number can't be divided further after an extent then whatsoever is left is called the remainder.

The division process includes:

  • Dividend - The number which is to be divided
  • Divisor - The number which is dividing the dividend
  • Quotient - The resultant of the divisor
  • Remainder - Leftover value after division always

The division formula is as follows:

Dividend=Divisor×Quotient+Remainder

And the formula for the remainder is:

Remainder=Dividend-Divisor×Quotient

Thus, the remainder is a leftover value when a number is divided by another number.
