  • Ores are nothing but the rocks from which minerals are mined.
  • Only about 100 are considered ore minerals, although more than 2,800 types of minerals have been identified.
  • A rock is an aggregate of one or more minerals but without definite composition of constituents of minerals.
  • Usually, metallic minerals are found in metamorphic and igneous rock formations that form large plateaus.
  • Minerals occur in different types of rocks. Some of the minerals are found in sedimentary rock, some are present in metamorphic rocks and some of them are found in igneous rocks.
  • Metallic minerals contain metal in raw form
  • Metals are hard substances that conduct electricity and heat and have a characteristic shine or lustre. Manganese ore, bauxite, Iron ore are some examples.
  • The largest producer of bauxite in the world is Australia.
  • The largest producer of high grade iron ore in the world is Brazil.
  • India and China have large deposits of iron ore.
  • The leading producer of iron ore in the world is Europe. The countries in Europe with large deposits of iron ore are Russia, France, Sweden and Ukraine.
  • Minerals found in metamorphic rocks and igneous rocks are iron, platinum, chromites, nickel in South Africa and Iron ore in North Sweden, nickel and copper deposits in Ontario, Canada.
