Connective tissues:

  1. They connect and support the body's various tissues and organs.
  2. They include soft connective tissues as well as specialized forms such as cartilage, bone, adipose tissue, and blood.
  3. Cells in all connective tissues, excluding blood, secrete collagen or elastin fibers.
  4. These cells also release modified polysaccharides, which form a matrix between cells and fibers.
  5. The three forms of connective tissue are:
  • Loose connective tissue: Example - Areolar tissue
  • Dense connective tissue: Example - Tendons and submucosa of the digestive tract
  • Specialized connective tissue: Example- bones and blood.
