Question

What is a diode with its types?

Solution

Diode:

An electrical component that only enables current to travel in a single path is called a diode. It is represented by a triangle with a line across one vertex.

Types of a diode:

  1. Light Emitting Diode: Light is created whenever an electric current pass between electrodes and travels through the same diode. Light has been produced when a significant quantity of electric current flows through it.
  2. Laser diode: It generates light that is coherent. It is widely utilized in CD drives, DVD players, as well as laser printers.
  3. Avalanche diode: This diode typically reverses biased as well as functions using the avalanche phenomenon.
  4. Zener diode: It can give a steady reference voltage, they are operated in reverse bias and fail when a particular voltage is applied.
  5. Schottky diode: Its forward voltage is smaller than that of other silicon P-N junction diodes. The decrease will be visible when there is a low voltage as well as current ranges around 0.15 and 0.4volts at a certain moment.
  6. Photo-diode: A photo-diode could indeed detect even modest amounts of current flow caused by light, which is quite useful in detecting light.
  7. P-N junction diode: This diode permits current to flow in a single path while blocking current flow in the other.

Therefore, by name, circuit use, and schematic symbol, the many diode kinds are easily distinguished.
