Sesame, commonly known as benne, is a flowering plant in the family Sesamum.
There are many wild relatives in Africa, but fewer in India. It is grown for its tasty seeds and has become common naturalization in tropical areas all over the world.
With an oil content of 40 to 50 percent, sesame is one of the oldest oilseed crops. It is also one of the most important oil-producing crops.
They appear in a range of colours, including yellow, white, black, and red, depending on the type of seed.
Almost all states have big or small areas where sesame is grown.
As a result of its high level of resistance to oxidation and rancidity, it is often referred to as the “Queen of Oilseeds.”
Sesame oil is also known as gingelly oil.
Edible vegetable oil made from sesame seeds is called sesame oil. In South India, it is used as cooking oil. Only cold-pressed sesame oil preserves and makes these advantages available.
