Solution

Definition

The power of a lens is defined as the inverse of its focal length measured in meters(m).

  1. The S.I unit of power is Dioptre(D).
  2. Formula: Poweroflens=1Focallength

Nature and power of the lens

Step 1: Given:

The focal length of 1st lense,

f1=40cm=0.4cm

The focal length of the 2nd lense,

f2=20cm=0.2m

Step 2: Power of Lenses:

The power of the first lens will be:

P1=1f1=10.4=2.5D

It is convex in nature.

The power of the second lens will be:

P2=1f2=10.2=5D

It is convex in nature.

Therefore, the power of the lens is 2.5D and 5D.
