Pollination:

  1. When the pollen grains are transferred from the anther of one flower to the stigma of another flower of the same species it is known as pollination.
  2. As pollen grains are immobile, they need pollinators such as bees, butterflies, etc., to carry the pollen to the stigma.

Importance of pollination:

  1. It increases the genetic diversity that helps the plants to survive varying environmental threats and harsh weather conditions.
  2. It helps in the production of fruits and seeds which provide food and the development of new plants respectively.
