  1. The organisms which feed on dead and decaying material i.e., detritus materials are referred to as Saprophytes.
  2. This phenomenon of nutrition is referred to as the Saprophytic mode of nutrition.
  3. In this mode of nutrition, The dead and decaying material gets decomposed.
  4. Hence the saprophytes are also referred to as Decomposers of nature.
  5. Saprophytes play an important role as they decompose and destroy detritus material.
  6. The fungi and many bacteria are referred to as saprophytes.
  7. Due Saprophytic nature bacteria decompose the Detritus and form humus.
  8. Due to this decomposition process, the fertility of soil increases.
