Question

What is the ability to do work called?

Open in App
Solution

Definition

  1. Work is just the transmission of energy.
  2. Whenever an entity or object is worked on, energy is transmitted to it. Energy is measured in Joule(J).

Kinetic energy

Kinetic energy would be the type of energy that an item or particle possesses as a result of its motion. When work, usually transfers energy, is performed on an item by exerting a net force, this same object accelerates and obtains kinetic energy.

Formula:

K.E=12mv2

Here,

m is the mass,

v is the velocity.

Potential energy

A type of energy storage that is dependent on the relative location of several pieces of a system is called potential energy.

There are two types of potential energy, such as:

  1. Gravitational Potential Energy (PEg): Whenever an item has been elevated to a higher altitude, this then accumulates gravitational potential energy.
  2. Elastic Potential Energy (PEe): Whenever an item is stretched as well as forced together, it generates elastic potential energy. Expanding a rubber band as well as pushing a spring, for illustration, imparts elasticity and potential energy to the item.

Therefore, the ability to do work is called energy.
