  1. A pteridophyte has xylem and phloem i.e., it is a vascular plant and reproduces through spores.
  2. Examples- Pteris, Equisetum.

The characteristic features of a pteridophyte:

  1. They grow in moist and shady places and some in sandy soils also.
  2. The plant body consists of roots, stems, and leaves.
  3. They reproduce through spores so they do not have flowers and seeds.
  4. They have a vascular system that is well developed with xylem and phloem.
  5. The stem is in the form of a rhizome.
  6. They have small and large leaves i.e., microphylls and megaphylls.
  7. Leaves have spores on the underside and are known as sporophylls.
