Solution

The correct option is B

β=α1-α

Step 1: Given

The current gain in common-base mode is given by α

The current gain in common-base mode is given by β

Step 2: To find

The relation between α and β

Step 3: Calculation

We know, the current gain in common-base mode is given by,

α=IcIe1α=IeIc----------------(1)

where Ic is the collector current and Ie is the emitter current.

The current gain in common-base mode is given by,

β=IcIb1β=IbIc----------------(2)

where Ic is the collector current and Ib is the emitter current.

We also know that in a transistor, sum of collector current and base current is equal to the emitter current.

Ic+Ib=Ie

Dividing the equation by Ic

IcIc+IbIc=IeIc1+1β=1αFrom(1)and(2)1β=1α-11β=1-ααβ=α1-α

So, the relationship between current gain α in common-base mode and current gain β in common-emitter mode is β=α1-α.

Therefore, option B is correct.
