What is the difference between an alkali and a base?
The difference between alkali and a base is as follows,
An Alkali | A Base |
Alkali is a base which dissolved in water. | Base are those compounds which have pH higher than 7 and turn the litmus paper from red to blue. |
All alkali are bases | All bases are not alkali. |
Alkali releases hydroxyl ions in water. | A base is capable to neutralize an acid. |
Example: Sodium hydroxide(NaOH) | Example: Copper oxide(CuO) |
