Question

What is the effect of dryness of air on evaporation?

Open in App
Solution

Evaporation: Evaporation is a process in which a phase transition occurs from the liquid phase to the gaseous phase by absorbing heat.

Effect of dryness on evaporation:

  • The rate of evaporation depends upon the temperature, surface area, and humidity.
  • When the air is humid it means the water vapour content in the air is high. So, the intake capacity of air decreases.
  • Dryness of air reflects low humidity.
  • So, when the air is drier, the water vapour intake capacity of air is high due to which the rate of evaporation is higher.

Hence, the dryness of the air increases the rate of evaporation.
