Question

What is the function of a galvanometer in a circuit?

Open in App
Solution

The function of a galvanometer in a circuit.

  1. The galvanometer is a piece of electromagnetic equipment that detects electric currents.
  2. This is an electromagnetic instrument that measures the electric current in a circuit.
  3. It seems to have a solid laminated horseshoe magnetic coil pivoting between concave pole faces. As an electrical current flows through the coiled, it deflects. The galvanometer would be a very sensitive instrument. The galvanometer deflection will be maximal for a tiny current of these few microamperes. As a result, it may be destroyed if a high current is passed through the galvanometer.
  4. Therefore as result, it is employed in a circuit to measure the quantity of electricity moving through the circuit.

Hence, the function of a Galvanometer in a circuit is to detect the existence of electric current in a circuit.
