Question

What is the role of the two conducting stationary brushes in a simple electric motor?

Open in App
Solution

The torque on a electric motor is kept from reversing every time the coil moves through the plane perpendicular to the magnetic field, by a split-ring device called a commutator that is used to reverse the current at that point. The electrical supplies to the outer side of the rotating split-ring commutator are done using Brushes. The current in the coil of the electric motor is supplied through the two brushes that make moving contact with the commutator.
