Question

What is the SI unit of self-inductance?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1. Self-inductance

  1. When there is a change in the electric current of a current-carrying coil, the magnetic flux related to it also changes to oppose the change in current, due to which electromotive force is induced in the coil. This property is known as self inductance.
  2. The formula to calculate self-induction for a coil having 1 turn is given as follows:

L=ϕI, where L represents self-inductance, ϕ is the magnetic flux, and I is the current in amperes.

Step 2. SI unit of self-inductance

  1. The SI unit of self-induction is Henry and is represented by H.
  2. The dimensional formula of self-induction is [ML2T-2A-2].
