Amoebiasis is an infectious disease that is caused by the Entamoeba group. The main source of contamination for amoebiasis is physical contact through contaminated faeces – especially through the faecal-oral route. The disease presents itself with severe vomiting and diarrhoea, abdominal pain, fever and body ache, inflammation or perforation of the colon. Proper preventive measures such as hygiene and cleanliness are effective at preventing the disease. If the infection has already set it, a course of amebicides are prescribed.
