Fertilization is a phenomenon of sexual reproduction; in plants, fertilization is the process of fusion of male gametes called pollens with female gametes called ovum or egg to produce a diploid zygote.

Apomixis:

  1. Apomixis is the term by which the seeds are produced without fertilization.
  2. It is a form of asexual reproduction that mimics sexual reproduction
  3. A few important species that are important to agriculture, like citrus and mango, display apomixis.
  4. In citrus and mango, some of the nucellar cells that line the embryo sac start to divide, push through the embryo sac, and finally develop into the embryos.
