What is the working of the ear?

Open in App
Solution

Ear and its functions:

  1. The ear is a sensory organ of the body that is responsible for the hearing mechanism of the body.
  2. The outer visible portion of the ear called the pinnae collects the sound waves and carries them forward to the ear canal where the sound waves are amplified.
  3. These sound waves then travel to the ear drum which results in vibrations that sets a set of tiny bones called ossicles in motion.
  4. The vibrations enter the Cochela, a part of the inner ear that is filled with fluid; this fluid activates the nerve endings.
  5. These nerve endings transform the vibrations and are converting them into electrical impulses that are carried to the brain and the brain interprets the signal in the form of sound.
