Groundwater:

1. The Availability of groundwater depends on the climatic conditions, temperature, use of water, etc.
2. Groundwater which is used with the help of wells and handpumps is used in houses, and villages as well as the irrigation purposes.
3. Rainwater is considered the main source of groundwater.
4. Groundwater is nearly 95% of the country's freshwater resources.

Causes of non-availability of groundwater:

1. Decrease in the water tables and the great increase in the pollution levels of groundwater.
2. Water logging and salinity have decreased the levels of groundwater.
3. Overpumping and exceeding the use of groundwater leads to lowering the levels of groundwater.
4. Cutting off a large number of trees is a major reason for the non-availability of groundwater.
5. Loss of vegetation cover and dumping of urban waste makes the ground water polluted and non-usable.
