Question

When viewed in white light, a soap bubble shows colors because of what?

Open in App
Solution

Soap bubble shows colors:

  1. When light falls on a soap bubble, some of the light gets reflected back from the outer surface of the bubble while some of it gets refracted and travels inside then again reflected back from the inner surface of the bubble, so we got two rays of light by the wavefront distribution.
  2. These two rays created by wavefront distribution, get interfered with and produce an interference pattern that appears to be colored.
  3. Because of interference, a soap bubble shows colors when viewed in white light.
