Marina beach in Chennai, India is considered the world’s second-largest beach. Marina beach in Chennai along the Bay of Bengal. This beach predominantly sandy of nearly 12 kilometres extends from Beasant Nagar in the south to Fort St. George in the north. The average width of the beach is 300 m and the width at the widest stretch is 437 m.

Features of the Marina beach

  • It is the most crowded beach in the country.
  • The beach attracts approximately 50000 visitors during weekends.
  • Marina beach was renovated by Governor Mountstuart Elphinstone Grant Duff in 1880s.
  • There are two swimming pools along the stretch—the Marina swimming pool and the Anna swimming pool.
  • In 2008, two floating fountains with spray height of 100 feet with colour lights for night view were planned to be installed in sea waters off the beach
