Goa is the smallest state in India in accordance with the area. Goa occupies area around 3702km2. Goa was declared as the 25th state of India on 30 May 1987.

Goa is the most visited state among all the states in India. Goa is popular for white-sand beaches, nightlife and historical importance. Panji is the capital city of Goa and Vasco da Gama is the largest city in the state.

Location

Goa lies between the latitudes 14°53′54″ N and 15°40′00″ N and longitudes 73°40′33″ E and 74°20′13″ E. The state of Goa lies in the coastal part and is called as Konkan. It is covered with the mountains of western ghats. Goa is surrounded by Maharashtra to the north and Karnataka to the east and south, with the Arabian Sea forming its western coast.

Culture

The culture of Goa is the fusion of both eastern and western. It is mainly referred to as Indo – Western culture. Few local festivals celebrated in Goa are Christmas, Easter, Carnival, Diwali, Shigmo, Chavoth, Samvatsar Padvo, Dasara etc. The Goan Carnival in the year-end and Christmas-new year celebrations attract many tourists.

Language

Konkani is the prominent language in Goa. Konkani films are produced in Goa. Konkani films are eligible and applicable for the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Konkani.

Goa as a whole is a friendly state and has stretched its hands in all aspects. Goa is state with rich non vegetarian foods and tourism is the main earning economy in the state.
