Solution

Answer: The correct answer is option (A) – Austria, Denmark and France.

The Prussian King, William I, was proclaimed German Emperor in a ceremony held at Versailles, in January 1871. The unification of Germany took place after the victory of Germany in 3 wars spread over 7 years.

Otto von Bismarck was the architect of unification. He carried out this process with the help of bureaucracy and the Prussian Army.

Among the middle class Germans, the nationalist feelings were widespread. In 1848, they tried to unite the different regions of the German confederation into a nation-state governed by an elected parliament, however they were repressed by the combined forces of the large landowners (called Junkers) of Prussia, military, and the monarchy. Later on, the leadership of the movement for national unification was taken by Prussia. Otto von Bismarck was the chief minister of Prussia.
