It is the effect produced by a plane mirror in reversing images from left to right. When an object is placed in front of a plane mirror, the right side of the object appears to be on the left side of the image, and the left side of the object appears to be on the right side of the image. It is well-known that a plane mirror causes the apparent lateral inversion of objects.
